According to Bureau of Prisons as of 1/25/2014 50.1% of U.S. prisoners were jailed for Drug related offenses. Of the total population 14% (27.6% of 50%) were jailed for marijuana related offenses.
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed that two of our group would know almost the exact percentage of the US economy driven by consumer spending. I was interested in what constitutes the remainder. According to Wikipedia gross private domestic investment, government spending, and imports netted against exports constitutes the remainder.

ReplyDeleteMost people today from birth to retired life, from kindergarten to graduate studies, from all walks of life, whether as civilian employees or military service, are taught to follow instruction or obey orders, rarely to show initiative, and seldom to follow their own conscience as to proper behavior. How may people continue to follow their conscience when it conflicts with established norms of behavior?
When should people be taught to be consciously and mindfully aware of the importance of how their conscience agrees or conflicts with established norms and how best to resolve differences. This especially applies to people with power over others (employers, holders of public office).
Conscience: the decider of doing what one ought vice what one wants. As a society, how can we influence this decision?
