As the President and his “nationalist” supporters might argue, the US is not responsible for all of the world’s misfortunes. True enough. But trying to understand current social and economic realities in Central America without understanding the history of US involvement in the region is a bit like trying to understand the movements of the planets in our solar system while ignoring the gravitational pull of the sun. You might reach some satisfying conclusions, but they would hardly contribute to your “understanding.”
