Trump declared victory against Mexico, saying that his tariff threats forced Mexico to stop the flow of refugees from Central America to the US. He dismissed claims from the NY Times that Mexico had already made those concessions before Trump's threats. Trump then claimed that he had an additional deal with Mexico, but refused to say what it was.

By dangling a letter in front of the press claiming that it contained yet undisclosed but critical aspects of the deal with Mexico Trump was, as always, playing the audience, distracting them from uncomfortable realities while ensuring that everyone will stay tuned for the next episode of "Trump the President."
