To say that the events of last week in Las Vegas, North Korea and Puerto Rico were disheartening would be a gross understatement. It sometimes helps to see the humor in these events in spite of their seriousness. Here is a video from the Daily Show which covers all three events:

As an anthropology professor of mine once observed, our species has not adapted to gun powder (and of course we never will.) For almost all of human evolution, to act on the desire to physically harm another human being required maximum physical effort. With the introduction of gunpowder and firearms anyone can destroy countless lives with the movement of a single finger. Recognition of this simple truth could open the door to a discussion about gun control that is driven by science and not ideology. But I wouldn't count on that happening.
